Firefox and Safari

Safari because it syncs my imac, macbook, and iphone together w/ the bookmarks etc.

Firefox when working on my blog, website and since that browser for some reason works better.

I mostly use firefox but was about to ditch it b/c it wasn't color managed......neither is Internet explorer.  I was getting frustrated that my zenfolio pics looked washed out when i loaded them online even though I had them saved in srgb colorspace.  Tammi was so nice and pointed out that neither were color managed browsers.....which meant they ignored the the embedded color profile of the image.  This website made all that click for me when I read it!  I did find out that the newest firefox 3.0 can be configured to honor embedded color profiles (the default is set to ignore them)...so i downloaded that and now my photos on zenfolio look just like they do in photoshop now!  All this time I was thinking I was doing something wrong and it turned out that it was the web browser!  Safari is the only web browser that honors embedded profiles by default.  I downloaded it as well and my photos look great on it as well.  But, I really prefer the look and function of firefox better so I definitely use it most of all.  I only use I.E. when i want to watch an instant browsing movie on netflix b/c that is the only supported browser.

I personally noticed it most in Zenfolio since that is where I store all my photos.  Usually I will run them through photoshop save as a jpeg and then upload to zenfolio.  And depending on the photo sometimes there was quite a color shift when I uploaded it and other times it was subtle.  I was starting to wonder if this was a zenfolio problem or something I was doing until tammi pointed out that it was a browser issue.  And after reading that page I linked above i totally understand it now.  If you put your mouse over and also click on the photo up at the top of that page it will show color shifts if your browser isn't color managed.....if it is (safari or customized firefox 3.0) than there will be no color shift at all.

It won't make your photos look murky to others if you use one of those browsers that is not color managed (but it might if they are using one!) If you use a browser that is not color managed it  is just not showing you the image the way it was intended. For example if you are viewing pics on here, you might think one looks washed out if you are using IE, but if you view it in safari, it looks great. Even more specifically, someone here posted pics of her ds playing in the yard and many people said the pics looked washed out. When I viewed them in  Opera, they did look washed out. When I viewed them in  Safari they look more vibrant.   Its basically the same as viewing pics on a calibrated monitor. Its mandatory to edit them on  a calibrated monitor, but you also view them on one so you can see their true colors, but basically you're throwing all that away if you use a browser that doesn't honor color management.  And, also it seems to only affect certain color ranges (the extreme ends) , but that is as you'd expect with color profiles, imo.

I try to use the latest versions of IE and Firefox.

Interesting about the above info, I'll have to check that out when I get time!
