The other day I was watching one of the photovision DVDs and Gabriella (who is 3) started paying close attention when it showed photographer Rod Evans working on a shoot with a mom and new baby. Soon, she carefully selected a baby doll and was intructing me in how to pose with it as she pretended to take pictures. Gabriella has a kid digital camera, but I decided to give her the good 'ol Sony cybershot point and shoot (that most of her newborn photos were taken on.)
I have to admit, she did a really good job at framing her image, holding the camera steady and pressing the button halfway to focus. Her posing directions for me were hi-lar-i-ous. Lets just say, she is very meticulous.
I should note that I did convert Gabriella's photos to black and white and sharpened/resized for the web. However, I resisted any urge to crop them etc... It really is a sickness isn't it?
Oh and please... be forgiving of my sloppy pony tail and lack of general done up-ed-ness.
For this one Gabriella decided that we needed to include the baby's big sister (aka Cinderella doll.) Gabriella carefully set up every part of this shot, including my hand lovingly placed right across Cinderella's forehead.
I think this is pretty darn good, 3 years old or not. Could maybe use a little contrast. ;)

Wow, she did great! That is so cute and hilarious that she was directing you. I really think you need to have the photovision folks come and film her so our kids can learn. :) I want to know what she was saying!
I just started watching that segment last night but Jonas wouldn't cooperate and I had to stop.
Have you watched the Baby Whisperer yet?

You'll have to trust me that it was pretty darn funny. She would tell me to put my hand on the big sister's head, then look through the camera viewfinder and then go back and move my hand where she wanted it, saying something like "It needs to be like this, Ok, there. That is good!" She certainly wasn't afraid to help me make adjustments, but overall she kept things upbeat. Which is good, no one likes a tyrant photographer.
The other thing she figured out that I was pretty impressed by was how to press the review button on the back of the camera to see the shot she just took. She knows how to do that on her kid camera so she must've just figured out which one it was on the P&S. She would look at her shot and say things like, "Good, that one is really great." etc...
I'm thinking... mother/daughter studio?
I'll let her do the more posed formal shots. Maybe the directing too.
Christy- Nope, I haven't seen the Baby Whisperer yet. Thanks for the tip on the DVDs, by the way :) I'll let you know when photovision for preschool photographers gets released.
LOL! That is soooo cute!
