My friend is in labor!

We talked about doing a newborn session at about a week old and I'm pretty excited!  I've been to the house and I think the dining room would be a good place to do photos. It has a nice large window that faces West. I'm thinking maybe we'll try for late morning as it is usually a decent time of day for new moms. I'll bring some blankets with me, but the mom knits so I'm hoping to use some things she has made. I'd like to get some gauze for swaddling. What type of fabric works best? I'll also bring some black fleece. I don't have a beanbag. What else works well for positioning?

I'll be sure to have her turn the heat up in advance and nurse him. Anything else I should know or should bring? I really appreciate it when you guys post set up shots for newborn pics. I learn a lot from those.

I LOVE gauze and bought 1 yard of a few different colors!! I have to say I do use my beanbag ALOT and it was totally worth it (I have a crappy one for now but it works). Also lots of blankets since newborns love to pee on them Wink Good luck I can't wait to see Smile

What a big boy!  Smile

I would just be prepared to be patient.  Give yourself a nice, big chunk of time to be there.  Babies are completely unpredictable so you need to have posing in mind that will allow for sleeping or wiiiiide awake kiddo.

I can't wait to see!

Congratulations to your friend! How exciting for you to do a newborn shoot. Would a Boppy with a blanket over it work for positioning? Hope all goes well!

How great!  I got a $20 beanbag at Target.  It is not filled enough at all, so I need to stuff something into it by tomorrow's newborn session...does anyone have any suggestions on what I could use?  Towels?

Did you do your session yet?  Share the photos, I can't wait to see!  Guaze is great, but I am having trouble finding thin enough guaze that is long enough-steph, where did you get yours?

Mom and baby are having a really tough time getting nursing going so she is on the completely and utterly exhausting nurse-pump-feed expressed milk... repeat every two hours schedule. I had to do that with Juliana and I remember how overwhelming it was. The whole routine takes close to an hour and then you have to repeat just an hour later. We're hoping to do the shoot Tuesday. He'll be 15 days old, but evidently he is a sleepy one so hopefully it will work out.

I checked Target and even (gasp) Walmart, but no beanbags!

15 days old is till really great, don't worry about it.  I had a kick ass 6 week old session a month or so ago and it was a-ok.

No bean bags at target?  Did you ask?  They are in the kid's room and bedding section.

I found a beanbag at Target today :) They had *one* and it had some marks on it so they marked it down for me. It just happens to be pink and I think I'm going to have a really really hard time prying it away from my girls!

Lol about your girls and the bean bag! I hope all goes well at your session tomorrow. Pass some empathy from me to your friend. I remember those awful early weeks of nursing, pumping, and bottle feeding around the clock. I'd never been so sleep deprived. Hope it gets better for her.

The beanbag was waaay worth it (although a few tears were shed by my 3yo as it left the house.) I definately need to add some stuffins to it.

I added a couple pics under "share my shoot." I'll add more later!
