    Re: Introduce yourself!

I'm Kim (same username as on TBW). I've had a Nikon d70s for 2.5 years now. I've mostly used it on the complete auto mode with the kit lens, but I've been so impressed by the photography on TBW (especially Suzanne's!) that I've really been inspired to try to get more from my photos, especially since I take like a gazillion photos a day of my DD.

I'm actually super excited because someone from my work has offered to give me a photoshop tutorial tomorrow to help show me how to make my photos look better. Can't wait!

    Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello!  I am just thinking about upgrading from a point and shoot camera to an SLR and posted a thread on TBW and then followed a thread on there to here Smile  So glad I found you!

I am debating between the various Canon Rebels as I have a lens from my father's old 35mm Rebel that will fit (I think) and am wondering if the newest Canon -- with the LiveView option -- would be worth the extra $$ for me.  Or should I begin with an older, less expensive model.  I have even seen refurbished ones through Future Shop on-line.   Is that a good idea?  Or maybe not.

The Nikons also seem to get great reviews....Stick out tongue

Like I said....I'm a newbie!  Any advice would be appreciated.

    TIA!

~Noreen (I am NFehr on TBW)

    Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi Noreen welcome!! I think it is best to start with a low priced body and get a nice lens or two. If you want to go Canon then the xt or xti is a good choice. If you go Nikon (which I think you should) Wink then something like the D50/D40 is a good place to start. I only buy from B&H or once in a while Adorama and have also heard Amazon isn't bad. Or buy used from a well known buyer. Good Luck!!

    Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi Everyone!  I just found this place!  I'm mommy2colton&mica over at TBW, but like many of you I don't spend much time over there anymore.  (but I'm not really to let it go completely until I get off my butt and sell my stash! lol).

I've always enjoyed and been around photography (my grandma was a pro photog way back when), but it wasn't until DH bought me a 35mm SLR when I was expecting our first child (5 years ago) that I really got into it.  With the birth of our second child came a P&S digital, which was fun (especially for posting fluffy on TBW), but it wasn't long before it wasn't enough for me and I saved up and bought myself a Nikon D80 for my birthday a couple of years ago.   Since then I've spent countless hours studying and practicing and improving my photography.  This spring, with the support of my friends and family, I decided to put myself out there and start my own natural light photography business.  I'm still in the portfolio building stages, but am having lots of fun.  In addition, I just got a job with a fabulous local wedding photog as her second shooter, which I am really looking forward to as a fantastic learning experience and portfolio builder for me.

I enjoy photographing anything and everything - sports, landscapes, macro, but it's portrait and "people pictures" that really speak to me.  I'm all about learning and having fun and being the best photographer I can be right now.

    I currently shoot with a Nikon D300 and a D200 for backup and secondary body for weddings.  I'm a bit of a lens-whore, and have more than I need.  18-200 VR, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, 17-50mm f/2.8, 28-75mm f/2.8, 90mm f/2.8, 70-300mm VR, 55-200mm VR and  18-135mm kit lens .  Looking in my bag, I also have SB-800 and SB-600, Sektonic L-358, Nikon D80 (amost gone), a couple of reflectors and other gadgets.

Right now I'm saving all my pennies to buy a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens (probably going to keep saving for the Nikon, although I'm hearing good things about the new Tamron version) - I hope to have it in my hot little hands by the end of the summer!

    Re: Introduce yourself!

    Hi there!

I jumped into the world of SLR a couple weeks ago.  I bought an Olympus e-510.  I'm working on reading the manual.  I'm a complete noob in photography, but I love it! My main photo subject matter will surely be my daughters, but a few nature shots and food pics will definitely sneak into the mix.  :)

I'm mamabearandcubs over on TBW as well.  I may not post too much, life is kinda crazy busy for me.  But I'll be reading and hoping to learn lots of tips and tricks from you all!!
